Description of Somethin’ bout a Train Sound (Midnight Train Devou Overpass)

American Tonalist Series this work is 75inches by 81 inches.

For many years I lived on the edge of Devou Park. From my hillside vantage point there still remained an unbroken forest all the way to the Ohio River reaching through West Covington. Ludlow. Bromley and on out into the last remains of farm country eventually turning in to rural Boone County.

The forest cooled air would often allow me open windows facing the forest. A few miles away there is an old train trestle high enough to join two peaks. It is the highest bridge in the area.  train regulations require the engineer to sound the old train horns in advance of crossing the spans and it would echo and soften coming up the valleys and through the woods into my windows in the wee hours of the night.  Something’ bout a train sound.
